You Just Got Blocked, foo’!
On Wednesday morning I get up, at 7 o’clock, fry two eggs and go back to bed. Twenty minutes later, I am awoken by a fire alarm and what appears to be screaming people? Today Colton and I (pictured above) are blocking some of the final scenes of Joel Mclean’s knock-up, beatnik, philosophy romance, “A Pistol in Hand is Worth Two in the Glove Box.” Here’s how the meeting goes in (semi) sequential order:
1. I ask, “Where did we leave off?” while riffling through scattered papers, half-finished water colors, a short story, a hard back copy of The Confederacy of Dunces, some class notes and sketch of French womans profile.
2. Colton pulls a copy from his folder, at the top of the page is the date 12/17/07, which was the last time we met, and the scene heading, Sundance and the girl are Pulled Over.
3. I stand on top of a piano indicated how I would like the shot to look with a crane.
4. Colton nods and calmly suggests a realistic alternative.
5. A guy and girl enter the room wanting to “watch a movie”, I tell them “Give us six months and I’ll give a real movie to watch.” Its weird because they don’t laugh as they leave the room.
6. I give Colton a victorious nod, and he asks me to further explain the significance of my dream last night to the shot of the Sundance and the girl kissing outside the cafe.
We finish two hours later, I can tell he’s really excited, its just a little arch in the corner of the mouth, but thats enough. “This is going to be beautiful.” “Yeah, I’m excited.” “You really sound like it.” He smiles. “You know.” I say, “if we could just get our hands on a helicopter…” He likes these kinds of jokes. “Night Bryce.” He say’s smiling and turning toward his room. “Goodnight, and next time I say lets go some place like Bolivia, lets go someplace like Bolivia.”
