School is out, we’re all back at our respective homes, and post-production of A Pistol In Hand is in its furious final stages. I’ve been handling lots of stuff in different directions over the past few days:

  • Daniel Paul Lawson, our composer, finished recording the score two days ago. Tonight I sent the finished files to Ben, our sound designer, to place in the final sound mix. Bryce decided he wanted to record a track himself for the score; it should be finished by Sunday.
  • Speaking of Ben, I heard from him tonight upon asking how the sound and foley were coming along: “Considering the time crunch, it’s going well. All of the dialog editing is done, and I’m about half way through the foley performing. So I should be done with the foley by Monday, then I start Sound design, and the final mix will be done by Friday and emailed to Colton. It’s hard to compress what was going to be 4 weeks into 9 days, but it’s going well considering.”
  • Earlier this week, Colton sent out an email to some of us saying that the deadline to get everything to him for the final product is, at the absolute latest, May 23. After that, he wouldn’t be able to work on the project until July. Needless to say, that should give us incentive to move our lazy butts and get this project finished.
  • I’ve also been working on getting a DVD cover designed for the film. I’ve asked two people to prepare some artwork and should be hearing back from them soon. Hopefully we’ll have a snazzy looking disc for you all to buy sometime in June.

That’s about all from me here in the great state of Pennsylvania. Expect more updates soon as the project nears completion.

Poster X

Since A Pistol in Hand is officially a locked picture (image-wise — sound design and music are being worked on as I write), we’ve been working on some promotional things. The premiere is being planned for June 21, DVD production is being researched, and a few members of the team are working on posters. This first poster was thrown together last night and may not be one we end up using. Nevertheless, we thought you might like to see it.

Picture Locked

After several months of editing and re-editing, we have completed the final cut of our little movie. As I type, the file is being exported from Final Cut Pro. It is amazing to see how much the movie has changed and evolved even since we finished our first rough cut in March. While questions and doubts cropped up all over the place early on, we now have a cut that we can watch, enjoy, and even be proud of. Now we are approaching the final stages of the project as we send the movie off to our sound designer Ben and composer Dan for sound and music. Meanwhile, I will continue working with the picture as we go through image-correction and color-grading.

It has certainly been an exciting experience. I can hardly wait for you to see the result.

500 member update!

Posted in Exhibition, General, Post-production, Pre-production, Production with tags , , , , , on March 17, 2008 by Phillip

Today, the Facebook group for A Pistol In Hand reached 500 members!  All of us on the team are atwitter with excitement and figured it was time to give a much needed update about the progress on the film.

THE PREMIERE: Allison, our administrative assistant, has been doing a fantastic job researching and coordinating our premiere  We are 99% sure that it will be the weekend of June 21 in Richmond, VA.  Mark your calendars and keep your eyes peeled for details!  We’d love to see you there!

THE MOVIE: Our heroic editing team (Bryce, Colton, and the rest of Long 222) has finished a rough edit of the entire film (minus the scene we still have to shoot).  A DVD of the rough cut has arrived to Dan (our composer; hear his music in the new trailer!) and Ben (foley/sound mixing).  We are well on our way!

THE WEBSITE: The fantastic Andre Ferdette, our web designer has just added a stellar new feature to http://ivoryfilmco.com.  It is an embedded video player and should be online within the next few days!

THE FINAL SCENE: Finding a time and place to shoot the last scene on the production schedule has been extremely nerve-wracking.  Lord willing, we will shoot it this coming Thursday with as many crew members as we can get.

Thanks for all your support!
